DEVOTEES JOIN DINAGYANG RELIGIOUS ACTIVITIES
Religious activities to usher the 2017 Iloilo Dinagyang Festival started with an early morning mass Jan. 11 as the nine-day Novena masses end Jan. 19 at 5:30pm with a five-minute mini-Sadsad at San Jose Church in City Proper.
Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Raymundo Alcayaga invited devotees to join the various religious events in celebration of the feast of Señor Santo Niño.
The afternoon mass is followed by a “mini-sadsad” or merry making, one of innovations introduced by the parish this year.
A grand merry making will be held on Jan. 21 after the 5:30pm mass, which is expected to entice more devotees because of the miracles they experienced. This celebration is composed of prayers, dancing and chanting wherein praising Sto. Niño.
Another religious activity is the fluvial procession on Jan. 20 starting 3pm from Fort San Pedro and culminates in front of Bureau of Customs Aduana building in Muelle Loney area, and foot parade to JM Basa street and back to church.
Also this year, the liturgical committee will not bring in the image from Cebu. This is because they want to highlight the first image brought here in 1968 and enshrined at San Jose church which will mark its 50th year in 2018.

The Coronation of the Niño Dinagyang was done Jan. 18.
The Visitation of the image of Sto. Niño to select schools and business establishments was conducted Jan. 17.
The Healing Mass and Lunch Date for the Aged, Sick and Abandoned in the parish was held Jan. 16.
The Sto. Niño Mass and fun day including games, feeding and gift-giving for around 400 children from barangays surrounding the parish were conducted Jan. 14 and a medical and dental mission Jan. 15.
The Walk with Jesus or Diana from San Jose Church to five villages of parish was held Jan. 13.
The Walk with Mary or Diana from San Jose Church to five villages of parish and installation of Hermano and Hermana Mayor Eduardo and Filamie Aguillon were done Jan. 11.
