Nine elementary and secondary schools compete in the 2017 Tambor Trumpa Martsa Musika drum and bugle/lyre competition of Dinagyang Festival at Freedom Grandstand Jan. 20 following a foot parade from Provincial Capitol.
Pupils and students of seven elementary schools and two secondary schools showcase their talents and skills in playing instruments, dancing and marching. “This endeavor is being undertaken for the holistic development of our schoolchildren,” said City Schools Superintendent Clarissa Zamora.
The competing city elementary schools are Baluarte Elementary School, La Paz I Elementary School, Arevalo Elementary School, Cubay Elementary School, Jaro I Elementary School, and Mandurriao Elementary School, and Banate Central Elementary School from province.
For the secondary level, they are Ramon Avanceña National High School and Iloilo City National High School.
Participants will be judged on music at 60 percent and performance and drill formation at 40 percent.
The elementary champion will receive P25,000; P20,000 for first runner up; P15,000 for second runner up; P10,000 for third runner up; and P8,000 for fourth runner up. The secondary champion will receive P30,000; P25,000 for first runner up and P20,000 for second runner up. Winners in both categories will also be given trophies. Special awards include Best in Performance, Music, Costume and Discipline.
