Dinagyang Photo Contest 2017 Official Rules & Contest Mechanics

Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation is introducing a new category for the 2017 Dinagyang Photo Contest. In addition to the Ati Contest and Festival Categories, there will be an Open Editing/Fine Art Category. Any photo of an ATI (individual or group) during their performance may be digitally altered with image editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop) to create a Photo Fine Art. Image composites and deliberately staged or posed shots are not allowed.

Photos will be judged with the following criteria: 40% – creativity and originality, 30% – composition (technical excellence and quality) and 30% – artistic merit (wow factor).

Photo Eligibility: This photo contest is OPEN TO ALL photography enthusiasts

Entry fee of P50.00 per photo is required.

Photographers who opt to have a Photographers ID Pass shall apply for pre-accreditation at the Iloilo City Public Information Office c/o Perla Lena. Accreditation guidelines and forms can be obtained from the official website of the Dinagyang 2017.

By submitting the photograph for consideration, the photographer attests that:

  • Entry is an original photograph
  • S/he created the image and owns full copyright to pictures submitted.
  • Entrant is prepared to certify this attestation on request
  • Submitted image has not been published
  • Submitted image was taken during the 2017 Dinagyang Festival
  • Submissions are in compliance with the legal and copyright laws

Each participant can submit a MAXIMUM total of 9 entries with a three entries maximum per category. Those who have accredited Photographers ID pass are allotted 5 free entries.

CATEGORIES

There are three (3) categories for the Dinagyang 2017 Photo Contest:

I. ATI CONTEST CATEGORY

The subject can either be an ATI participant (individual or group) taken strictly during their performances inside the official judging areas on January 22, 2017. Deliberately staged or posed shots are not allowed.

II. FESTIVAL CATEGORY

These are any photos taken during the entire Dinagyang Festivities with the exception of performance inside the judging area during the ATI performances (January 22, 2017) particular emphasis on the theme depicting the celebration. Subject maybe an ATI or KASADYAHAN participant/s (solo or group shots) during the celebration proper or during any of the official Dinagyang Foundation sanctioned activity, such as, the fluvial procession. Deliberately staged or posed shots are not allowed.

III. FINE ART / OPEN EDIT CATEGORY

Show off your post processing skills in this category, edit and photoshop to your hearts content. Composites photos will not be allowed. The subject can either be an ATI participant (individual or group) taken during their performances or their performance route on the theme depicting the celebration. Deliberately staged or posed shots are not allowed.

PHOTO FORMAT / ENTRY DETAILS (for ATI and Festival categories)

Each entry must be taken with a digital or film camera and submitted in either an 8×10 of 8×12 matte color paper without border.

Entries must also be accompanied by the digital file (either in JPEG or RAW) on a CD/DVD must at least be 2000×3000 pixels All digital copies must contain the original EXIF data. Tampered EXIF data may subject entries to this categories for disqualification

Photos taken with film negatives must be scanned into a digital image file (JPEG/TIFF) and submitted on a CD/DVD in actual size with 150 dpi or higher resolution. The original negatives may be requested for clarification purposes.

All photographs should accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appears. Top entries will automatically be compared to the submitted digital copies. Editing should be limited to global adjustments only. Images that do not meet these requirements may not be judged at the judging panel and/or Contest Secretariats discretion.

Participants should write on a piece of paper their name, address & contact number, email address taped on the back of each of their photo entries. Digital copies are to be renamed with the participants name and category the photo is submitted. Example filename: JuanDeLaCruz_Ati_01 or JohnDoe_Street_01. These, plus the CD/DVD, should be sealed in a long size brown envelope for submission.

All photographs could be edited beyond the original image and still accurately reflect the subject matter and the scene as it appears. Any form of Global or local editing is allowed and encouraged in this category. Composite images are not allowed and will be disqualified

Images that do not meet these requirements may or may not be judged at the judging panels and/or Contest Secretariats discretion.

Digital copies are to be renamed with the participants name and category the photo is submitted. Example: JuanDeLeCruz_FineArt_01. These, plus the CD/DVD, should be sealed in a long size brown envelope for submission.

CONDITIONS OF THE CONTEST

By submitting their images to the contest, entrant indicates that s/he has read the rules and conditions of the contest and accepts the terms listed below:
• You confirm to the contest organizers that you shot the photo, that you are the rightful owner of the photo, and that you have obtained any necessary third‐party releases. The contest organizers reserve the right to request your copy of any personal release, location release or artist release.
• Photographer retains the copyrights to his/her images, but grants to the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc., (IDFI), Department of Tourism (DOT), Iloilo Business Club, and the Offices of the City and Province of Iloilo without need for attribution, prior permission or additional pay or consideration: the right to use the submitted images royalty‐free, world‐wide and in perpetuity; the non‐ exclusive license to copy, display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the submitted images, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for all non‐profit public information purposes.
• IDFI reserves the right to contact photographers to confirm information in the submission form or for any other purpose considered necessary.
• IDFI reserves the right to disqualify photographers who: are unable to validate the information submitted on the submission form; tamper with the process; or breach Contest Rules.
• Upon submission of photos and digital images, their ownership shall be deemed transferred to the IDFI, hence, hereby waiving all proprietary claims over said prints & CDs/DVDs submitted to the IDFI.
• Decisions by the judges and IDFI Secretariat are final. Entrant agrees to comply with and be bound by the decisions of the secretariat and/or of the panel of judges on all matters associated with the contest, and waives all rights to judicial recourse in case of disputes

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION

Deadline for submission of entries will be on January 27, 2017 5:00 pm at the Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter 2nd Floor Bonifacio St., Iloilo City. (Tel. no. 3375950).

By submitting an entry, each participants agrees to the official rules and warrants that his or her entry complies with all requirements set out in the official rules.

Top entries will automatically be screened further and evaluated for any breaches in the contest rules.

EXHIBIT, AWARDING & PRIZES

Pre-screened entries will be exhibited at SM City Iloilo (schedule of exhibit and awarding of winners to be announced later). NOT ALL ENTRIES SHALL BE ON EXHIBIT.
